School Library

The Eaglehawk Secondary College Library is a bright, comfortable and friendly place to visit and is run by qualified and professional staff.  The library is open six periods a day, before and after school, and at lunchtimes.

The ESC Library strives to:

  • create a safe, welcoming environment where staff and students can work and study
  • promote a reading culture and develop a love of literature
  • teach information skills within the context of the curriculum
  • collaborate with staff to provide accurate, current and relevant information, resources and ideas that support and enrich the curriculum

We have an extensive and up-to-date collection of fiction, non-fiction, reference, newspapers, talking books, graphic novels, magazines and picture books. An extensive collection of DVD/Videos is available for staff borrowing to support their teaching.

The library has 25 computers available for student use. Wide reading is greatly encouraged and supported by an excellent collection of the latest fiction novels for young adults.

Information Literacy Program

At Years 7 and 8, students are scheduled into the library for one period a week to undertake the Information Literacy Program as part of English.

This program aims to develop information literacy skills such as identifying and selecting appropriate information and resources, interpreting, synthesising and communicating the information.  Students will undertake a variety of library-based activites in context with their studies in English.
