ESC History
Eaglehawk Secondary College is in the old Borough of Eaglehawk in the regional city of Bendigo. Its history is important because the Eaglehawk community has a sense of identity and community that is unique in Bendigo.
The first move towards establishing a secondary school in Eaglehawk came in 1949 when the site of the school was first looked at with a view to purchase. Negotiations were rather slow - the purchase was not finalised until November 1964! Eaglehawk High School was, however, established a few months earlier, not in the Borough, but in five portable classrooms at Camp Hill State School. There were 122 students and five staff.
1965 saw Eaglehawk High move into new buildings on its present site, twenty-five rooms instead of the previous five! In 1972 the decision was made to equip the school with Technical facilities and the Tech. wing was built in 1977-78. Eaglehawk High Technical School became the first High Tech school in provincial Victoria.
